lsewhere is built entirely by the people who show up. The barrios, which are the community camps, run dancefloors, gifting bars, workshops, meals, and art installations. No money changes hands on site. Everything that happens is because someone decided to make it happen. The community that built Elsewhere came directly from Nowhere, the event that ran in the same desert from 2004 until 2024, and that history means the people arriving know how this works and come ready to play. Elsewhere also has a reputation as one of the most sex-positive burns in Europe. Camps openly host spaces for exploration, and the overall social atmosphere is one where people feel free to be open about desire, connection, and play in ways that most events do not allow for. People who attended Nowhere describe the social barriers that usually take weeks to dissolve seeming to go in a few hours. The event takes place in the Monegros Desert in Aragon, northern Spain, about two hours from both Barcelona and Zaragoza. The desert is flat, dry, and reaches above 40 degrees during the day in July. You bring your own food, water, shade, and shelter. There are water points on site, shared shower facilities, and portable toilets. The discomfort is part of it, and by day three most people have stopped caring about what they look like.
