A temporary city built in the Nevada desert focused on radical self-expression, large-scale art, and community participation. It feels like a mix of art festival, experiment in society, and immersive desert gathering.
Burning Man is a week-long temporary city created each year in the Black Rock Desert in Nevada. Participants collectively build Black Rock City, then remove everything afterward, leaving no trace. The experience is based on 10 principles including radical inclusion, self-reliance, gifting, and participation (no spectators, only participants). The festival is known for large-scale interactive art installations, theme camps, performances, and a strong DIY culture. There is no central entertainment program in the traditional sense. Instead, everything is created by participants: music camps, workshops, art cars, spontaneous rituals, and performance spaces. The atmosphere is often described as surreal, playful, and transformative, with a strong emphasis on community interaction, experimentation, and radical freedom.
